Meghan Markle’s new life in the English countryside is facing an unexpected problem.
After years in California, Meghan and Prince Harry returned to Britain with Archie and Lilibet and were quickly linked to the celebrity-filled Cotswolds.
But instead of receiving a completely warm welcome, reports suggest some locals have been grumbling about the Sussexes almost from the moment they arrived.
Now the story has escalated into claims that furious neighbours want the family gone.
So has Meghan really managed to turn an entire corner of rural England against her?
The answer is more complicated.
A Local WhatsApp Group Was Reportedly “Buzzing”
One of the strongest claims came from royal commentator Daisy McAndrew.
She said she belonged to a local WhatsApp group where residents had been discussing Meghan’s presence in the area.
According to McAndrew, the group became “alive and buzzing with complaints” after Meghan was reportedly seen at Soho Farmhouse.
She also said local sources claimed Meghan had sought some form of “special treatment.”
That apparently did not go down particularly well.
But McAndrew added a major qualification.
Some of the stories being passed around were already fourth-hand or fifth-hand.
No screenshots from the WhatsApp group were produced.
No specific complainants were publicly identified.
And there was no evidence that the messages represented the wider Cotswolds community.
Security May Be Part of the Friction
The Sussexes are not ordinary new residents.
Their presence comes with significant security concerns.
Reports suggest Meghan’s visits to local venues may involve bodyguards, alternate entrances or extra arrangements designed to protect her privacy.
McAndrew suggested that this kind of security “palava” could irritate people accustomed to the discreet lifestyle of the Cotswolds.
That would make sense.
The area is full of wealthy and famous residents.
But many of them blend quietly into local life.
The Cotswolds social code is often described as simple:
Keep your head down.
Don’t make a fuss.
And don’t turn every outing into an event.
Some Locals Have Been Much Harsher
Other reports have quoted residents using considerably stronger language.
One local reportedly said:
“People really just don’t like her.”
Another source complained that Meghan visits Daylesford Organic Farm Shop accompanied by bodyguards during busy shopping periods and described the arrangement as inconvenient.
Some reports even claimed local staff had become frustrated with the attention surrounding her.
A separate Cotswolds resident interviewed on TalkTV suggested the Sussexes had not received the welcome they may have expected.
He added that if the family threatened to leave Britain again over security, some people might respond with “good riddance.”
That is certainly hostile.
But one individual saying “good riddance” is not the same thing as an organized community demanding immediate eviction.
Meghan Really Has Been Seen Around the Area
The Cotswolds connection itself is real.
The Guardian reported Meghan had been spotted at Soho Farmhouse, the exclusive members’ retreat near Great Tew.
The venue sits among some of the most celebrity-heavy countryside in Britain.
The Beckhams live nearby.
Paul McCartney visits the area.
Geri Halliwell-Horner and Christian Horner also have a home in the region.
Harry and Meghan themselves previously rented a property at Great Tew after their wedding.
So their return to the area is hardly unprecedented.
Not Everyone Appears Hostile
This is the part that often disappears from the viral headlines.
The evidence does not show that all Cotswolds residents oppose the Sussexes.
The more careful reporting specifically describes a mixed reception.
Some residents appear irritated.
Others seem indifferent.
And there is no evidence of a formal village campaign trying to remove Harry and Meghan.
Even the report examining the WhatsApp complaints concluded that the available evidence supports only a narrow claim:
There has been some local grumbling.
It does not establish widespread hostility across the Cotswolds.
The Sussexes’ Exact Home Is Still Private
Another complication is that their precise residential arrangements have not been officially confirmed.
Reports have repeatedly placed the family in or around the Cotswolds since their UK return.
But the Sussexes have not publicly identified their exact home.
That makes phrases like “their neighbours” much less precise than they sound.
Some quoted residents may live miles away from the Sussex property.
Others may simply frequent the same pubs, shops and private clubs.
Why Meghan’s Presence Generates More Attention
One local writer made an interesting point.
The Cotswolds already contains celebrities, wealthy businesspeople and minor royals.
Most barely generate local headlines.
Meghan is different.
Every pub visit becomes a story.
Every bodyguard becomes a talking point.
Every security arrangement gets analyzed.
That level of attention can transform minor inconvenience into a much bigger community controversy.
Are Neighbours Really Demanding They Leave?
There is currently no evidence of a coordinated demand.
No petition has emerged.
No council action has been announced.
No residents’ association has ordered the Sussexes out.
And no credible report shows a group of neighbours formally demanding that Harry and Meghan leave immediately.
What does exist is something much less dramatic but still interesting:
A number of locals reportedly dislike the attention and security surrounding Meghan.
Some have complained privately.
Others have criticized her publicly.
And a few have openly suggested Britain might be better off without the Sussexes.
The Real Battle May Be Cultural
Perhaps this is less of a royal showdown and more of a culture clash.
Harry and Meghan returned to one of the most discreet wealthy communities in Britain.
The Cotswolds is accustomed to fame.
What it appears to dislike is fuss.
And if reports about extra security arrangements and special treatment are accurate, that may explain why Meghan’s arrival has irritated some residents.
But the leap from “some locals are annoyed” to “the entire neighbourhood demands they leave immediately” is enormous.
The Sussexes may have a Cotswolds image problem.
They do not yet appear to have a Cotswolds eviction movement.
